Road Trip in the Black Forest 2024

Baden-Baden, Germany

Roatrip to the heart of Porsche passion in the Black Forest

Originally from Metz, since I've been driving a Porsche, I've got into the habit of crossing the German border to the Black Forest and spending a weekend in Baden-Baden to enjoy the surrounding roads.

I was also able to meet a number of leading figures from the Porsche world, such as Gerhard Stefan, founder of GS Manufaktur, who some describe as the "German Singer", and Alexander Hoch, founder of Advanced Canvas. When I asked them to come to Foret Noire, they immediately opened the doors of their workshops, which we'll be visiting during our stay.

Roads, places, encounters: another exceptional program for this Black Forest roadtrip.

Hotel Roomers ****

Once upon a time, Baden-Baden, the spa town in Germany's Black Forest, was where you'd go to enjoy the classic hospitality of yesteryear. So the opening of Roomers Baden-Baden came as a shock: nothing could have prepared the local hotel scene for a brand-new, modern building housing a luxury boutique hotel designed by Milanese designer Piero Lissoni.

The interiors of the public spaces feature three elements: impeccably composed modernist elegance and a touch of graphic whimsy, with street art murals or faux-Elizabethan pop culture portraits, as well as Lissoni's soberly elegant furniture and decor. And the rooms offer inimitable Milanese modern luxury, with everything perfectly in its place. With their king-size beds and sumptuous bathrooms, they lack nothing in terms of comfort, and the suites extend to sumptuous dimensions.

Roadbook in the heart of the Black Forest

We've put together the road books for this weekend in the Foret Noire with local knowledge. But at UNXPECTED, we like the unexpected, and these itineraries will be interspersed with stops to discover the local heritage.

GS Manufaktur

Thanks to American and Japanese influence, Porsche culture has evolved in recent years. Modifying your Porsche is no longer taboo, and it's almost fashionable to build your own 911 Backdate. In a small town in the Black Forest, there's a workshop called GS Manufaktur, where a father and son build highly customized Porsches for their customers. With their Porsche 911 Backdate, which they call 964 GS "The Apparatus", they offer a very special example of the 911 Backdate section. Philipp Göller will introduce us to this special father-and-son project. And then we'll go for a drive with him on the roads of the Black Forest, which he knows better than anyone.

Advanced Canvas

Advanced Canvas was founded by Alexander in mid-2018. He spent around 2.5 years refining the idea and perfecting the necessary craft skills. In early 2021, after completing more than 250 prototypes and some 2,500 hours of work, it was possible to produce the first Advanced Canvas: the king of all Porsches, the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 in 36″ . Since then, the team has also been working on other models, formats and unique new ideas to constantly create new momentum and make each model a singular work of art. He'll tell us all about it in his workshop...
